Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • An IT &ITeS SEZ is being developed at Naya Raipur
  • STPI Bhillai is already operational. The STPI is on a 7.46 acre plot, with a 2 MBPS scalable International Gateway Hub taking care of all external connectivity needs of the State
  • An area spread over 8,200 sqm has been arranged for IT vendors at the apparel park at Urkura, Raipur District. A 4-5 acre land parcel will be provided adjacent to the constructed building
  • The state has one of the largest fixed WiMAX deployments in the country for e-governance, providing access to 3,000 locations in the state

Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • Integrated Infrastructure Development Centres (IIDCs) being set up at Tifra (Bilaspur), Shyamtarai (Dhamtari), Teknar , Kapan (Janjgir-Champa)
  • Engineering Park with 150 units based on engineering products, machine tools, auto components, casting & forging being set up at Bhilai on 120 ha of land
  • The metal park at Bhanpuri near Raipur houses ~100 industrial units on 255 acres of land

Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • The only State achieving zero power cut in both rural and urban areas
  • Likely capacity addition in next 5 years is of 30,000 MW with an investment of Rs. 1,50,000 crores
  • State to get 10,000 MW of power from above capacity addition at a very competitive rate
  • Korba city will have installed capacity of around 10,000 MW by 2013 and will become the Energy Capital of India
  • Out of National Target of 90,000 MW in 12th Plan, 30,000 MW likely to be commissioned in Chhattisgarh

Focus area/sub sectors: Hotels, theme/ amusement parks, eco-tourism, medical tourism

  • Chhattisgarh plans to double the visitors inflow in next two years from the present 33 lakh
  • Plans to expand its tourist sector via PPP mode
  • With 125 tourist destinations, including the country's biggest waterfall Chitrakoot; wildlife and forests and historical sites, it offers a variety of options for travelers.
  • The state is visited by 25,000 foreign tourists mainly from France, Germany, the US and the UK.
  • Currently more than 30,000 people are working in the sector
  • Holistic state tourism master plan expected to be ready by 2013
  • Opportunity to develop medical tourism sector in the State

Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • Top six urban centers in the State are Bhilai, Bilaspur, Durg, Korba, Raipur and Rajnandgaon
  • 23 % of the state's population resides in urban areas
  • Population density of 189 persons per sqm
  • Between 2001-2011, urban population has registered growth of 40%
  • New capital city "Naya Raipur" being built as India's fourth planned city, over an area of 8000 hectares

Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • Chhattisgarh is one of India's three richest biospheres offering more than 1500 medicinal plants
  • Chhattisgarh infotech Promotion Society (CHiPS) headed by the CM is nodal agency for propelling Biotechnology (including Bioinformatics) growth
  • Companies such as ABLR Pvt. Ltd currently engaged in production of tissue culture and seeds
  • State has a bio-diversity plan in place and a biotechnology policy
  • Biotechnology park being planned in collaboration with BCIL; and SEZ also under planning for pharmaceutical manufacturing

Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • Chhattisgarh is amongst the only 4 states in India to have this unique art form; over 75% of artisans engaged are tribals
  • Chhatisgarh is the largest producer of Tasar Silk in India
  • Chhattisgarh is home to world renowned craft forms such as 'tumba' art, 'godna' art, dhokra' art and has 2 patented art forms- wood carving and bell metal
  • Abundant supply of highly skilled labour with over 65,000 craftsmen and handloom weavers engaged in the industry

Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • In 2009-10, the cereals production was 5.8 million tonnes, rice production was 5.2 million tones
  • Total pulses and oilseeds production were 782,690 tonnes and 700,990 tonnes, respectively
  • Almost 80 per cent of the population is dependent on agriculture or agriculture-related occupations
  • The Government is setting up a food processing park at district Rajnandgaon (45 km from Raipur) on 120 hectares of land. The project is being implemented in the PPP mode and expected to be functional by October 2014

Focus area/sub sectors: Herbal extraction and processing, Honey processing

Chhattisgarh Scenario

  • Chhattisgarh having 44 percent geographical area under forest is very rich in biodiversity
  • Non wood forest produce (NWFP) consisting of Tendu leaves, Sal Seed, Harra, Gums of Kullu, Dhawda, Khair and Babool are the major products
  • A Herbal-Medicinal Park is being developed at the Banjari and Bagaudh villages of Kurudh tehsil on about 154 acres of land. The park will have about 500 units with a project cost of US$ 21.1 million and is expected to be completed by 2014
